Colville Curriculum Collection

The Colville tribal community created science units with traditional ecological knowledge based on the four seasons, integrating indigenous science with technology.

The CRIS (Culturally Responsive Indigenous Science) curriculum was created to provide science components from an indigenous standpoint relevant to tribal communities. There are four units created around teachings from the Colville Tribe. Fall unit is on the importance of healthy water habitats; this includes stories related to water, comparisons of water stories from different tribes, and observations of life inside water systems. Winter unit allows the students to learn traditional stories and relate their teachings into Western Science utilizing interactive technology. Spring unit teaches gathering, preparation, and cooking of traditional foods from the tribal lands. Summer unit uses google earth for mapping of traditional landmark, rivers, and tribal communities.
